News: 5 days agoStrange is operating as the Jaguars' starting tight end at training camp, Paul Bretl of USA Today reports.

Spin: This comes as zero surprise following Evan Engram's offseason departure to Denver, but it was noteworthy that Jacksonville did very little at the tight end position during the offseason, opting to add only depth-type blockers Johnny Mundt, Hunter Long and Quintin Morris. Strange started eight regular-season games that Engram missed last season, totaling 29-285-2 receiving in those contests. Strange is a popular late-round pick at tight end in early fantasy drafts this summer.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Strange is the new No. 1 tight end in Jacksonville following the release of Evan Engram. We got a preview of this last season when Engram was sidelined for eight games. In those weeks, Strange played 72% of the snaps and handled a solid 14.6% target share (4.9 per game). That led to one big fantasy outing (12-11-73-0 in Week 15), but he otherwise averaged 6.9 fantasy PPG and failed to clear 12.4 points in any of the other seven games. Perhaps Strange gets to another level in Year 3, but, especially with Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter set to be featured, the 2023 second-round pick seems likely to settle in as a low-ceiling TE2.
